This publication is focused on providing students with the skills to define their own sexual limits and to have these limits respected in case of pressure. These "healthy sexual limits" are intended to help keep young people safe from HIV, STIs and pregnancy. The programme is divided into 19 one-hour sessions distributed over three grade levels (Grades 6, 7 and 8) and is designed for in-school use either by a school-teacher or an outside educator. It is especially targeted at Latino students, but has nee used with students of all races/ethnicities. A spanish translation of the teaching material is provided and tips are includes to adapt the curriculum to students with special needs and to bilingual classrooms. Through brainstorming and role-play, students are taught and rehearse four essential steps to help them 'draw the line': 1. Say, No, I don't...; 2. Use body language that says 'No'; 3. Change the subject; 4. Walk away if necessary. They are also provided with information about HIV and STI transmission and prevention, as well as unplanned pregnancy. Condom use is demonstrated, but primary emphasis is on sexual abstinence as the best protection against HIV, STIs and pregancy. The purpose of this curriculum is to help students define their own limits and learn skills to have these limits respected. The manuals are divided into chapters, each corresponding to a one-hour lesson. Over the three years of the programme, the following themes are covered: setting one's own sexual limits; skills to draw sexual limits and have these limits respected; respecting others' limits; the difficulty of sticking to one's limits; handling risky situations that might lead to sex; information on HIV and STIs and how to prevent them; sexual abstinence; condom use.
