The countries in the Western Pacific Region have made good progress in reducing the transmission of HIV and providing services to people living with HIV (PLHIV). However, challenges remain and there are important gaps to be filled. This report documents the achievements and challenges of the health sector’s response to the HIV epidemic in the Region over the past decade. It identifies best practices and important opportunities to further reduce the number of new infections, and prolong and improve the quality of life of people living with HIV in the Western Pacific Region. The last report on HIV and sexually transmitted infections was published by WPRO in 1999. The focus of this Regional report is to bridge the gap in knowledge and history.
