Washinton DC: POLICY Project, U.S. Agency for International Development, USAID, 2003. 54 p.
This report was prepared by the POLICY Project for the U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Itis designed as an advocacy tool to assist policymakers and other relevant stakeholders in stimulating dialogue about sustainable, contextually appropriate responses to HIV/AIDS in the Mekong Region. An exhaustive review of the complexities and data related to the pandemic is beyond the scope of this document. Instead, this report seeks to provide an overview of the current HIV/AIDS situation in the Mekong Region; present projections as to where the pandemic is headed in the future using the best available data; highlight some of the key social and economic impacts of the pandemic; and discuss strategies that will be needed to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS, improve care and support, and mitigate associated impacts.
