Description:
This study aimed to assess HIV-related knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAPs) of high school students in Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) because inadequate knowledge, negative attitudes and risky practices are major hindrances to preventing the spread of HIV. This is a cross-sectional study on unmarried male students aged between 16 and 19 years old, undertaken in 2010. The study concludes that despite adequate knowledge of HIV/AIDS among the school students, misconceptions about ways of transmission were found; furthermore, students showed negative attitudes twoards HIV/AIDS and risky practices. The study recommends that educational programmes with specific interventions be implemented to increase KAPs and to prevent new HIV infections among students.
