The primary objectives of the review were to systematically collect and review studies on HIV, AIDS, STIs and STDs conducted in PNG between 2007 and 2008; to assess the quality and reliability of these studies; and to synthesize the research findings under common thematic areas. The secondary objective of the review was to identify relevant recommendations for researchers, policy makers, practitioners, and stakeholders. Common themes identified include: tradition, culture, customs and norms; gender; Christianity and Christian beliefs; Sexuality; Sexually Transmitted Infections; HIV knowledge; HIV vulnerability; HIV prevention; HIV testing; Living with HIV and AIDS; Leadership; Fear as a response to HIV; Public services and government sectors; epidemiology.
