  1. Mixed method evaluation of a passive mHealth sexual information texting service in Uganda

    The authors evaluate the impact of a health information intervention implemented through mobile phones, using a clustered randomized control trial augmented by qualitative interviews. The intervention aimed to improve sexual health knowledge and shift individuals towards safer sexual behavior by providing reliable information about sexual health. The novel technology designed by Google and Grameen Technology Center provided automated searches of an advice database on topics requested by users via SMS. It was offered by MTN Uganda at no cost to users.

    A large proportion of young people worldwide are sexually active, and this exposes them to the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, and to the risk of unintended pregnancies.     Sex is Politics - Sexuality, Rights and Development Policies is a document produced by the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU) in 2009 (second edition). It is eight fact sheets with information regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The documents states that SRHR are controversial and are contested by moral conservative, religious, cultural and political forces in many parts of the world. These limitations tend to lead to a lack of information that prevent people making free, informed and reasonable decisions regarding their own sexuality and reproduction.

    This report presents key findings from a new body of research that describes the sexual and reproductive health needs of Malawi's youth. The information was gathered from young Malawians themselves through focus group discussions, in-depth interviews and a nationally representative survey on sex, relationships, marriage, HIV/AIDS and pregnancy among young women and men aged 12-19. This report discusses in detail some of the challenges in and opportunities for improving the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents in Malawi. …
