  3. An exploratory study of the sexual and reproductive health needs and rights of adolescents living with HIV in Lusaka

    With improved access to treatment for people living with HIV many are now able to live longer. As a result there is growing interest in overall quality of life issues. In many countries attention is increasingly being drawn to the unique and often neglected needs of different sub-groups including young people. This exploratory qualitative study sought to examine the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs and concerns and barriers to accessing related services for adolescents aged 10 – 19 years living with HIV in Zambia.

  4. Scaling up prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission programs in sub-Saharan African countries: a multilevel assessment of site-,program- and country-level determinants of performance

    This study seeks to look at the influence of program-level and contextual determinants that pose a challenge to the uptake of prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission programs in sub-Saharan Africa. This study explore thes multilevel factors associated with "coverage in single dose nevirapine PMTCT programs." The study found that heterogeneity of nevirapine coverage between sites and programs was high- meaning that in these programs there was a high HIV prevalance, a higher proportion of persons with knowledge of PMTCT, and a lower percentage of rural population. …

  5. Addressing sexual violence and HIV risk among married adolescent girls in rural Nyanza, Kenya

    HIV infection is much higher among adolescent girls in sub-Saharan Africa than among boys. In settings such as Nyanza Province, Kenya, rates of HIV infection are extremely high, and evidence is increasing in some settings that girls who are married are much more likely to be infected with HIV, compared with their unmarried sexually active counterparts.   7. Tendências da epidemia de AIDS entre subgrupos sob maior risco no Brasil, 1980-2004

    O presente trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar as tendências da epidemia de AIDS em grupos populacionais sob maior risco no Brasil no período de 1980-2004. Entre os anos de 1980 e 1988, os casos homossexuais ou bissexuais masculinos correspondiam à maioria. Posteriormente, há um decréscimo importante no papel desempenhado pelos HSH e ocorre um acréscimo nas outras categorias de exposição. Neste sentido, a análise da dinâmica da epidemia de AIDS no Brasil mostra a importância dos grupos HSH e UDI masculinos enquanto grupos de risco diferenciado.

  8. Sexualidade de mulheres vivendo com HIV/AIDS em São Paulo

    O artigo apresenta um estudo realizado com 1.068 mulheres soropositivas. Os questionários elaborados visavam descrever os aspectos da vida sexual e reprodutiva das entrevistadas, bem como a maneira como elas percebiem o aconselhamento nesta área fornecido pelos Centros de Referências. Constatou-se que o conhecimento sobra a transmissão materno-infantil é reduzido, e as entrevistadas também se referiram ao pocuo espaço e acolhimento para discutir sexualidade, emáespecial suas intenções reprodutivas. …

  9. La sexualité et la grossesse de la femme confrontée au VIH/sida

    À partir du constat des bénéfices associés à la thérapie antirétrovirale - amélioration des conditions de vie de personnes séropositives, augmentation de leur espérance de vie, etc. - et du fait que la personne séropositive peut désormais envisager la grossesse, l'article indique la nécessité de la prise en charge de ce souhait de fonder une famille par les équipes soignante, tout en soulignant l'importance de la minimisation maximale du risque de contamination et les avantages de la procréation médicalement assistée.

    The report is a part of series of comprehensive qualitative studies conducted by the UNDP Regional Centre for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in selected countries. The overarching aim of this research is to identify existing barriers to the full integration of PLHIV in each of these Eastern European or CIS societies.
