    Teenage pregnancy in the Dominican Republic is a complex problem and of high concern to the national agenda. Available data indicate that 22% of women between 12-19 years have been pregnant. This rate is 34% higher than the average for Latin America and the Caribbean. Teenage pregnancy is concentrated in specific areas of the country – the southern provinces and central Cibao - as well as among poorer people.     Los estudios sobre le impacto que tiene la educación básica en el desarollo de las mujeres y sus familias confirman la necesidad de focalizar y especializar la atención a la diversidad de condiciones, situaciones y contextos que el estudiantado vive a lo largo de sus trayectorias escolares. La presente investigación hace referencia a une de esos casos; el ejercicio de la sexualidad y el acontecimiento de los embarazos tempranos.

  3. Adolescent sexual and reproductive health programs in humanitarian settings: an in-depth look at family planning services

    This report summarizes findings and recommendations of a year-long exercise undertaken by the Women’s Refugee Commission and Save the Children - in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to map existing adolescent sexual and reproductive health programs and document good practices. The work was accomplished through a practitioner survey and humanitarian funding analyses; key informant interviews; and collection of good practice case studies.
