    The Kenya Girl Guide Association (KGGA) and Family Health International (FHI)/Impact began a program, which was developed by PATH, in 1999 to train young Girl Guides as HIV peer educators in their schools. The project aims to improve knowledge and skills related to HIV prevention and care among Girl Guides and their peers. In collaboration with KGGA and FHI/Impact, the Horizons Program is currently conducting a study to evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention model in achieving the objectives of the peer education program. …

  2. Passions and Portraits - Young women raise HIV/AIDS awareness in South Asia

    In 2005 the IPPF, South Asia Regional Office invited 10 young women between the ages of 16-20 to take part in an exciting new initiative that would ultimately combine HIV/AIDS awareness with photography.   3. Livelihood Options for Girls: A Guide for Program Managers

    The purpose of this guide is to strengthen the capacity of HIV/AIDS program managers to design interventions that reduce adolescents' vulnerability to HIV by offering viable and effective livelihood options to supplant high-risk behaviors motivated by economic insecurity. It is designed to help PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) teams encourage the development of tailored interventions that combine economic empowerment components with other activities to prevent HIV infection among the target population. …

  4. Identifying appropriate livelihood options for adolescent girls: a program design tool

    The tool can be used to design a new HIV prevention program for adolescents, as well as other programs related to the larger context of sexual and reproductive health (such as pregnancy prevention programs). It is intended for use by donors and organizations implementing HIV prevention and sexual and reproductive health programs for adolescents.   5. Sexual and Reproductive Health of Young People: Expanding the Research and Program Agenda

    This paper's focuses on areas of relatively poorly addressed or understood aspects of young people's sexual and reproductive health. The authors propose to argue for the need to supplement our knowledge and programmatic interventions with regard to three specific issues related to young people's lives that need attention: (a) an overlooked sub-population of married adolescent girls; (b) an overlooked behavior of sex without consent; (c) programmatic interventions that work (or do not) in enhancing young people's health and development.
