    Current interest in cross-generational sex is largely due to the feminization of the HIV and AIDS epidemic. Young women 15-24 years of age in sub-Saharan Africa are three times more likely to be infected with HIV than young men of the same age, four times more likely in Zambia, and a staggering five times more likely in Zimbabwe.   4. Cross-Generational Relationships: Perceived Norms and Practices in Jamaica

    This report from C-Change/FHI 360 documents a study that explored the dynamics of cross-generational relationships in Jamaica, with the aim of informing communication programs working to decrease cross-generational sexual practices and their related risks, including gender-based violence (GBV) and HIV. This study defined cross-generational sex as sexual behavior between two people who are at least 10 years different in age. The authors found that key motivators for participating in these relationships were sexual gratification and emotional and financial support. …

  5. Concurrent partnerships, acute infection and HIV epidemic dynamics among young adults in Zimbabwe

    This paper explores the roles of acute infection and concurrent partnerships in HIV transmission dynamics among young adults in Zimbabwe using realistic representations of the partnership network and all published estimates of stage-specific infectivity. We use dynamic exponential random graph models to estimate partnership network parameters from an empirical study of sexual behavior and drive a stochastic simulation of HIV transmission through this dynamic network. …

  8. Inquerito comunitario sobre os Conhecimentos, Atitudes e Pratica em relacao ao VIH/SIDA

    In 2006 the Project of Health Bandim realized a community inquiry, financed by UNFPA, about the knowledge, attitudes and practices related to HIV and AIDS.The study breaks down the population in terms of ethnicity, regions, religion and age and considers the level of knowledge people have about HIV and AIDS transmission and prevention methods. Similarly, the study considers the behaviours within social relationships that impact the spread of STIs and HIV, such as first sexual encounters, number of partners, frequency of sexual encounters and the use of condoms.

  9. Rwanda: study of literacy needs and programmes for youth and adults

    This study ordered by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Scientific Research of Rwanda, had four components. 1. Review of relevant documentation. 2.     This manual is prepared for teachers and it provides resources (including fact sheets, accurate information and data about HIV and STIs) and gives examples of interactive skill-building activities. These tools can strengthen teaching and advocacy skills of teachers and trade union leaders. The manual can support and increase unions' efforts to apply their unique capacities and experiences to strengthen HIV-related curricula and training programmes for teachers and other members of the community. …
