  4. Assessment of Utilization of the HIV Interventions by Sex Workers in Selected Brothels in Bangladesh

    This study aims to examine changes in knowledge, attitude and behavioural practices of the female sex workers (FSWs) for STI and HIV and AIDS prevention and to understand the socio-cultural context for these changes in the selected brothels. It shows that the peer educators were found to be acceptable and credible facilitators to the FSWs in brothels. It shows that FSWs' high knowledge of STIs/HIV/AIDS was not always supported by the skills to negotiate with the clients. Therefore, more life skills training and role-playing exercises will be part of the training program for the FSWs. …

  7. Edutainment for development and sexual health

    This issue of Sexual Health Exchange published by SAFAIDS and the Royal Institute (KIT) is devoted to edutainment for development and sexual health. The term "edutainment" combines the ideas of education and entertainment by using the performing art as a vehicle of change and education. The issue features several edutainment programmes in Asia and Africa that use drama, theatre, puppetry, music, edu-clowns, street plays as a vehicle of change and education.

  8. Learning to live: monitoring and evaluating HIV/AIDS programmes for young people

    The specific aims of this handbook are: To introduce the concepts which underlie project monitoring and evaluating; To demonstrate how these are practically applied in HIV/AIDS projects; To provide an overview of existing good practice in key sectoral areas, and how these practices have been identified.- to give examples of methods and procedures which can be used in monitoring and evaluating HIV/AIDS projects; To encourage the use and adaptation of these methods, (a) to improve programming, and (b) to advocate the adoption and expansion of effective projects.

    Migrants can be especially vulnerable to HIV/AIDS/STIs, but are often excluded or simply missed in many prevention and care programmes. This paper outlines key existing laws, policies and best practices in relation to the rights of migrants to health. It argues for a number of immediate changes to improve migrants' health and concludes with recommendations for the future development of policies to improve the health status of migrant populations.
