    This paper tests the effectiveness of an entertainment education television series, MTV Shuga, aimed at providing information and changing attitudes and behaviors related to HIV/AIDS. Using a simple model, the paper shows that “edutainment” can work through an individual or a social channel.   2. HIV knowledge, attitudes and behaviours: The situation at technical, vocational education and training (TVET) colleges in South Africa

    The HSRC 2012 population-based survey of national HIV prevalence, incidence and behaviour reported that there were approximately 469 000 new HIV infections in 2012 (Shisana et al. 2014). More than one-third of these infections (192 000) were among young people in the 15–24 years age group, with females accounting for 90% of new infections. Among those 25 years and older, 300 000 new infections were estimated, with the highest number of infections among females (175 000) compared to males (125 000). …

    The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between teachers’ attitude towards teaching HIV/AIDS education and students’ knowledge and attitude towards sexual behaviour in secondary schools in the Coast Region of Kenya. The study used descriptive survey research design. The samples comprised 421 respondents of which 33 were teachers and 388 students in 13 secondary schools.   4. Impact of teachers training on HIV/AIDS education program among secondary school students in Bangladesh: A cross-sectional survey

    In 2007, the Government of Bangladesh incorporated a chapter on HIV/AIDS into the national curriculum for an HIV-prevention program for school students. For the efficient dissemination of knowledge, an intervention was designed to train the teachers and equip them to educate on the topic of HIV/AIDS. The present study intended to understand the impact of this intervention by assessing the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours related to HIV/AIDS, among the targeted students.

    The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Office of the Pacific States commissioned an attitudinal survey on the delivery of Sexual and Reproductive Health (including HIV) education in schools in four Pacific Island Countries: Nauru, Niue, Palau and Samoa.     OBJECTIVES: This study represents a comprehensive assessment of differences between participants in an HIV/AIDS prevention program (SHAPE: Sustainability, Hope, Action, Prevention, Education) and non-participants in knowledge, attitudes and practices with a focus on cultural, sociological and economic variables.   13. Relative Risks and the Market for Sex: Teenagers, Sugar Daddies and HIV in Kenya

    An information campaign that provided Kenyan teenagers in randomly selected schools with the information that HIV prevalence was much higher among adult men and their partners than among teenage boys led to a 65% decrease in the incidence of pregnancies by adult partners among teenage girls in the treatment group relative to the comparison. This suggests a large reduction in the incidence of unprotected cross-generational sex. The information campaign did not increase pregnancies among teenage couples. …

  15. Descripción de los conocimientos, actitudes, susceptibilidad y autoeficacia frente al VIH/SIDA en un grupo de adolescentes colombianos

    The objective of this research is to describe and compare correct knowledge, incorrect ideas, attitudes, susceptibility and self-efficacy in cases of HIV/AIDS in a group of Colombian adolescents. The sample consists of 222 adolescents of both sexes between the ages of 10 and 18. (Average 14.10 and a typical deviation of 1.925), who belong to a public institution in the city of Cali. This is descriptive correlational research (Montero and León, 2005). The information was gathered by the application of the Colombian adaptation of the HIV-65 scale (Bermúdez, Buela-Casal and Uribe (2005), which measures knowledge, attitudes, susceptibility, and self-efficacy in cases of HIV/AIDS. The results show that the scale obtaining the highest score is that of incorrect knowledge, which suggests that there are still erroneous and mythical concepts about HIV/AIDS. It was also found that there are different meanings depending on age, academic level and sex.
