  2. Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Behaviour in Dodowa, Ghana

    This report presents findings from a study of sexual and reproductive health status of inschool and out-of-school adolescents in Dodowa, Ghana, carried out in 2001. The research aim was to help design a program to address adolescents' unmet needs and promote safer behaviours. The research design used both qualitative and quantitative methods, including focus group discussions, PLA techniques and surveys. Students of Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, out-of-school adolescents, teachers, parents and community opinion leaders were included in the study.

It is an easy to read pocket size document that gives ten penis facts with implications for condom use. The ten facts discussed are: 1) Length, 2) shape, 3) large glans, 4) girth, 5) erection - harness varies, 6) the foreskin, 7) sensitivity, 8) the balls, 9) sharp hairs, and 10) latex allergies.   8. Trends in primary and secondary abstinence among Kenyan youth

    Promoting sexual abstinence among never-married youth is an important component of HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns for youth in countries with generalized epidemics. The objective of this study was to examine trends in primary and secondary abstinence among never-married youth age 15-24 in Kenya over a ten-year period and to explore the role of HIV prevention knowledge, schooling, and contextual factors in affecting abstinence behavior. Data were from Kenya Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in 1993, 1998, and 2003. Primary abstinence was defined as never-married youth who never had sex. …

  9. Zimbabwe national behavioural change strategy for the prevention of sexual transmission of HIV 2006-2010

    The Zimbabwe National Behavioural Change (BC) Strategy is a multisectoral framework to reduce sexual transmission of HIV by promoting responsible practices. Comprehensive epidemiological and behavioural reviews form the basis of this strategy. They found that HIV prevalence had declined in Zimbabwe and that behavioural change including partner reduction and increased condom use had already started. At the same time, multiple concurrent partnerships and a number of related practices were still seen as key drivers of the epidemic. …
