  2. HIV/AIDS policy in Vietnam: A civil society perspective

    HIV/AIDS has spread rapidly in Vietnam since the first case was registered in 1990, and today more than a quarter-million people in the country are living with HIV/AIDS. The national HIV prevalence rate among adults is 0.5 percent, but prevalence rates are significantly higher among high-risk groups, such as injecting drug users (33 to 65 percent) and sex workers (approximately 16 percent). However, the illegal nature of drug use and sex work has complicated efforts to prevent HIV among these high-risk groups. …

    Swaziland is experiencing a generalized epidemic. The world's highest HIV prevalence and the increasing number of deaths due to AIDS is having unprecedented impact on Swaziland. Worryingly, with a generation of orphans and rapidly escalating poverty, this desperate situation is being accepted as "normal".     In the past several years, there has been a growing international dialogue on the feasibility and desirability of providing integrated family planning (FP) and HIV services. The reasons for offering joint, complementary services are many.     The Sudan HIV/AIDS Working Group (SHAWG) is a voluntary network of healthcare professionals with interest in HIV/AIDS. SHAWG was founded by Sudanese expatriates working as HIV specialists in the United Kingdom and South Africa and was officially launched in a press conference held in Khartoum on 10 August 2008.
