This document describes the mission, principles, components and objectives of the University of Natal AIDS Plan for 2002-2004. It is a departure point for dialogue and action with the various stakeholders, collaborators and partners committed to enhancing the response to HIV/AIDS within the University community. This dialogue will enable us to build, develop and implement this plan, thereby reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS on the University of Natal.
These guidelines are based on the National Policy on HIV/AIDS for Learners and Educators in Public Schools, and Students and Educators in Further Education and Training institutions of the Department of Education (South Africa).
The National HIV/AIDS Policy for the Education Sector formalises the rights and responsibilities of every person involved, directly or indirectly, in the education sector with regard to HIV and AIDS: the learners, their parents and care givers, educators, managers, administrators, support staff and civil society.
