  3. Working with men for HIV prevention and care

    Le rôle que les relations de genre jouent dans la propagation du virus est de plus en plus connu. En exemple, dans le monde entier, les femmes sont moins nombreuses que les hommes à être en position de décider de quand et comment avoir les relations sexuelles. De même, Il apparaît clair que les femmes ne peuvent pas changer les relations dominantes de genre, qui prévaut actuellement, sans le concours de leurs partenaires masculins. Ainsi, l'engagement des hommes est un élément essentiel dans la prévention du VIH. Ce document vise à aider ceux qui travaillent avec les hommes dans le contexte de la santé sexuelle et de reproduction en général et celui de la prévention du VIH en particulier. Il examine 12 projets dont le celui de Papai. Ce dernier travaille avec les jeunes hommes de Recife au Brésil à promouvoir la participation à la santé, l'éducation et la prise en charge des enfants. L'analyse des stratégies de ces jeunes et des leçons à retenir devrait générer les besoins communs vitaux des hommes par rapport au VIH/SIDA et à leur santé et donner une idée des approches de travail efficaces avec les hommes.

    Ce manuel fait partie d'une série de quatre documents de méthodologie comprenant : 1 - Communication appropriée pour le changement de comportement; 2 - Elaboration de stratégie et de politique; 3 - Travaux sur le terrain: construire une réponse locale ; 4 - Conception et exécution de projet. Chaque manuel traite deux sujets principaux : a) Une explication générale de l'approche culturelle de l'épidémie du VIH/SIDA et b) Les niveaux d'action à considérer : Stratégie/politique, conception de projet et travaux sur le terrain. Le présent manuel analyse comment évaluer les travaux de terrain en cours et élaborer une réponse appropriée au fléau. Il fait aussi référence à des thématiques transversales contenues dans les trois autres manuels.

  7. Migrants' Right to Health

    Migrants can be especially vulnerable to HIV/AIDS/STIs, but are often excluded or simply missed in many prevention and care programmes. This paper outlines key existing laws, policies and best practices in relation to the rights of migrants to health. It argues for a number of immediate changes to improve migrants' health and concludes with recommendations for the future development of policies to improve the health status of migrant populations.

  10. Drug use and HIV/AIDS: UNAIDS statement presented at the United Nations General Assembly special session on drugs

    AIDS is a significant public health threat worldwide. In many parts of the world, the use of injected drugs is a major mode of HIV transmission. Given the relationship between intravenous drug use and HIV infection, efforts must be made to reduce risks of infection among individuals and communities through advocacy and HIV/AIDS prevention programmes among drug users.
