  5. Southern African Development Community (SADC) code on HIV/AIDS and employment

    In 1994 a process was started by a group of NGO’s and trade unions in South Africa and Zimbabwe to try and persuade SADC to develop a regional “Code of Best Practice around AIDS and Employment”. In 1997 the Code that is reprinted in this pamphlet was adopted by the SADC Council. It is now an official policy of the region and it is recommended that SADC’s 14 member states find ways to incorporate the Code’s provisions into legislation.     Le plan d’action du Département de la Fonction Publique, du Travail, de la Jeunesse et des Sports vise à contribuer à l’atteinte des objectifs de la lutte définis dans le Cadre Stratégique National de Lutte contre les IST/VIH/SIDA. Les Cibles du Plan d’action du département sont constitués principalement par le personnel du département, les jeunes membres des associations sportives, les travailleurs, les familles de ces groupes. Les associations de jeunes seront touchées par l’intervention de la société civile et des services décentralisés.

  7. Cross-sectional study assessing HIV related knowledge, attitudes and behavior in Namibian public sector employees in capital and regional settings

    The study objective was to assess the current status of HIV knowledge, attitudes and behavior (KAB) among employees of Namibian ministries. As most HIV campaigning takes place in the capital of Windhoek, an additional aim was to compare Windhoek to four regions (Hardap, Erongo, Oshana, and Caprivi). Between January and March 2011 a cross-sectional survey was conducted in two Namibian ministries, with participants selected randomly from the workforce.     In 2007 GIZ commissioned Health Focus, Germany, to implement the intervention "Supporting Public Sector Workplace Programmes in Tanzania" (WPP) for the planning, implementation and monitoring of workplace interventions on HIV/AIDS as part of the Tanzanian German Programme to Support Health (TGPSH). The first phase of the project was implemented from July 2007 to March 2010, the second phase from April 2010 to December 2012.   11. Evaluation of an HIV/AIDS peer education programme in a South African workplace

    This paper describes an evaluation of a workplace HIV/AIDS peer-educational program. A cross-sectional study of 900 employees was conducted in 2001 across three areas in South Africa and measured the impact of a peer-education program on knowledge, attitudes towards people living with HIV/AIDS, perceptions of risk and condom use. Peer-education had no impact on any outcome. Some 59% of subjects had good knowledge, 62% positive attitude towards people living with HIV/AIDS, 34% reported frequently using condoms, 73% perceived themselves at low risk for infection. …
