A change is happening among young people across the world, especially in parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Waiting longer to become sexually active, young people have fewer multiple partners and there is an increased use of condoms among those with multiple partners. Se detallan las características de este grupo, la metodología empleada por el estudio y sus principales resultados: creencias y mitos sobre VIH/ITS, percepción de discriminación y grado de satisfacción respecto a la atención en los centros de salud.

    Estudio realizado en trabajadoras sexuales de Cochabamba, Bolivia.áSe encuestaron a 163 trabajadoras sexuales de 19 locales de la ciudad. La edad media es de 24 años, la mínima de 18 y máxima de 55. El 97%, refiere que escuchó alguna vez sobre el VIH/sida, el 98.2% refiere saber cómo evitar la transmisión y el 95.7% cita al condón como un medio de prevención. El 80.4% de las TS refiere que realizó el último control médico hace menos de un mes. El 19.3% de las TS encuestadas, refieren que durante los últimos seis meses tuvo secreciones, úlceras o llagas en genitales. …

  4. South African national HIV prevalence, incidence, behaviour and communication survey, 2008. A turning tide among teenagers

    South Africa's first national, household sero-prevalence survey of HIV and AIDS was conducted in 2002. A second survey was completed in 2005 and this, the third, in 2008. This report provides an analysis of trends across the three surveys and begins to map the ways in which the shape of the pandemic in South Africa has changed since 2002. Indicators for assessing mid-term progress made in implementing South Africa's National Strategic Plan on HIV and AIDS, 2007-2011 are also provided. …

  5. Universities and HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa: the case of Benin

    Between July and September 2000, the first study of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the Universite Nationale du Benin (UNB) was conducted. In the course of the study, more than one hundred people were interviewed, including the Director of Higher Education and the Rector of the University. The study took place on the campuses at Abomey-Calavi, Cotonou and Porto-Novo, as well as in NGOs and public service departments that were not associated with the University or the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research (MENRS). …
