    Theatre for a Change (TfaC) is a registered non-governmental organization in Ghana which works to reduce the risk of HIV infection among marginalized and vulnerable groups through the use of interactive, participatory learning techniques. The HIV prevalence rate in Ghana is 1.37% and 11.1% among female sex workers (FSWs). In September 2012, following a period of mobilisation, TfaC began working with a group of 10 FSWs living and working in Old Fadama, Accra’s largest illegal settlement, to form the Peace and Love Club. …

    There is inadequate information on the burden of HIV infection, and on the prevalence of the risk factors for HIV transmission among University students in Uganda. Routine sources of data such as HIV surveillance and national population-based AIDS Indicator surveys do not provide information on institutional populations such as University students.     Soul City, a multi-media health project in South Africa has been effective in imparting much needed information on health and development, and in changing attitudes and behaviour as well. Soul City works primarily within South Africa but the TV programme has been shown in a number of African countries as well. In the last two years Soul City has worked on a sponsored education booklet called Choose Life, aimed at 12-16 year olds in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia. 1,331,000 copies of the booklet will be printed and distributed in the four countries in seven different languages. …

    The Bantwana Initiative for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, an initiative supported by World Education, Inc. and John Snow, Inc. (JSI), helps communities expand and increase the quality of comprehensive services for orphans and other vulnerable children - and their households - in the communities where they live.   9. HIV/AIDS and students at RAU

    This report is drawn from findings of a study on the association between awareness of HIV/AIDS and behaviour of RAU students in a social/cultural context. Students' knowledge, awareness and perceptions were determined, and their behaviour was linked to their HIV status. The study included a questionnaire survey coupled with a test for HIV status based on samples of oral fluid (saliva). Questionnaires and samples were anonymous, and provided on the basis of informed consent. The result of every HIV test was linked to the appropriate questionnaire by providing each with the same bar code. …
