    Aims: To identify with whom in-school adolescents preferred to communicate about sexuality, and to study adolescents' communication on HIV/AIDS, abstinence and condoms with parents/guardians, other adult family members, and teachers. Data were obtained from a baseline questionnaire survey carried out in South Africa (Cape Town and Mankweng) and Tanzania (Dar es Salaam) in early 2004.   6. The Impact of the HIV/AIDS Epidemic on the Education Sector in Sub-Saharan Africa. A synthesis of the findings and recommendations of three country studies: Botswana, Malawi, and Uganda

    This report presents the main findings and recommendations of an international research project, which has focused on assessing the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on primary and secondary schooling in three countries, namely Botswana, Malawi and Uganda (BMU). Adult HIV prevalence rates were estimated to be 36% in Botswana, 21% in Malawi and 8% in Uganda in 1999. The report explores the following three areas: student prevention and the impacts on students and teachers.
