  4. CARE Canada HIV/AIDS Strategy: Addressing the social, economic and health dimensions of the epidemic

  5. Zimbabwe national behavioural change strategy for the prevention of sexual transmission of HIV 2006-2010

Comprehensive epidemiological and behavioural reviews form the basis of this strategy. They found that HIV prevalence had declined in Zimbabwe and that behavioural change including partner reduction and increased condom use had already started. At the same time, multiple concurrent partnerships and a number of related practices were still seen as key drivers of the epidemic. …

  6. Situational analysis of orphaned and vulnerable children in eight Zimbabwean districts

In response to the AIDS epidemic and poverty, the Zimbabwean government and other organisations are implementing various programmes aimed at assisting orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in the eight districts surveyed. It is clearly important to have an audit of the social services and support structures available for OVC in the eight districts and to have a clear understanding of the situation of OVC including their needs and concerns in order to have proper prioritisation, designing and evaluation of programmes that are aimed at supporting the affected children.

  7. Child participation in education initiatives

This guide from CRS/Zimbabwe addresses child participation in many aspects of programming. Child participation is one of the guiding principles of the convention on the rights of the child and increasing the scope and level of child participation should be an objective for every education or child protection program. This guide presents many useful suggestions for ways to increase child participation, but what is required most of all is a belief in the value of child participation and a commitment to making it happen in a meaningful way. …
