    This paper aims to assess whether the goals of the in-school programmes on prevention of HIV and AIDS that are taught in primary schools of 15 national ministries of education in Southern and Eastern Africa have been reached equitably between boys and girls by the end of primary education. One feature of most of these ministries is that they are in countries that are the hardest hit by a general HIV epidemic.   3. Assessing young unmarried men's access to reproductive health information and services in rural India

    The authors conducted a cross-sectional study using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Participants included 38 unmarried rural men in four focus-group discussions and a representative sample of 316 similarly profiled men, ages 17-22 years. Information was collected via survey on the men's socioeconomic characteristics; awareness, knowledge, and perceptions of family planning; attitudes toward future contraceptive use; intra-family communication; knowledge about STIs/HIV/AIDS; and access and use of condoms. …

  4. A multi-level model of condom use among male and female upper primary school students in Nyanza, Kenya

    Although several studies have emphasized the relevance of community level variables to AIDS prevention among young people in sub-Saharan Africa, few have tested the empirical connections between such variables and sexual behaviors. Using data from 3645 sexually experienced grade 6 and 7 students from 160 schools, this study applies hierarchical linear models to estimate the effects of individual and community level variables on condom use among youth in Nyanza Province, Kenya. It is an easy to read pocket size document that gives ten penis facts with implications for condom use.     The report provides the overall view of men's sexual and reproductive behaviour worldwide and drawing out the health programme implications of that information. Focusing on men 15-54 years old in 23 countries that represent all regions of the world, the report examines men's needs for health information and reproductive health services, and identifies obstacles that prevent men from receiving those services.
