    According to the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) India has 5.2 million HIV-positive people and an HIV-prevalence of 0.9 percent of adults - about the same as the global average, or the sero-prevalence in North America, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. India's epidemic is concentrated in some 200 districts, most of them in six of the country's 28 states - namely Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Nagaland and Tamil Nadu - where HIV-prevalence is more than one percent.   2. Families and children affected by HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable children in Papua New Guinea: a national situation analysis

    This study provides an overview of the situation of children and families affected by HIV/AIDS, and of other vulnerable children. Its purpose is to assist the Government, civil society organisations and development partners in the development of policies and programmes for on-going support, and in the monitoring of community-based assistance to families and children affected by HIV/AIDS. The study is a joint project of the Department for Community Development and the National AIDS Council, supported by civil society organisations and UNICEF.
