  1. Community reaction to older age parental AIDS caregivers and their families: evidence from Cambodia

    This article examines community reaction in Cambodia to families from the perspective of parents of adults who died of AIDS or currently receive antiretroviral therapy. Survey evidence and open-ended interviews reveal a mixture of reactions related to social relations, interactions with local officials, gossip, business patronage, funeral participation, and orphaned grandchildren.     This paper examines the concept of strengthening community action within the context of HIV prevention. There is evidence of the potential role of community participation in HIV/AIDS prevention and care efforts. This paper examines problems and prospects for participation in HIV prevention strategies among commercial sex workers in Madras. It is based on the experiences of a pilot project established by the Tamil Nadu State Government AIDS Cell and WHO.
