    This chartbook aims to provide policymakers, program managers, and the interested public in sub-Saharan Africa and around the world with a better understanding of the needs and experiences of youth in the region and how investments in youth can help achieve the MDGs. The data is drawn primarily from the Demographic and Health Surveys.

  2. Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Behaviour in Dodowa, Ghana

    This report presents findings from a study of sexual and reproductive health status of inschool and out-of-school adolescents in Dodowa, Ghana, carried out in 2001. The research aim was to help design a program to address adolescents' unmet needs and promote safer behaviours. The research design used both qualitative and quantitative methods, including focus group discussions, PLA techniques and surveys. Students of Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, out-of-school adolescents, teachers, parents and community opinion leaders were included in the study.

It examines young people's sexual partnerships in rural KwazuluNatal, South Africa, focusing attention on key aspects of relationship dynamics, including number of partners, age asymmetries, and duration and frequency of contact, using both survey and qualitative data. Using household survey and qualitative data, the study foud that one-third of the men surveyed reported multiple and/or concurrent partnering, and one-fourth of the women had partners who were five years older than they were. …

  5. Protecting the next generation in Uganda. New evidence on adolescent sexual and reproductive health needs

    This report discusses in detail the sexual and reproductive lives of Uganda's youth, focusing on 15-19-year-olds. Chapter 2 provides an overview of the patterns of sexual behavior among adolescents. Chapter 3 explores adolescents' contraceptive use for protection from unwanted pregnancy and STIs, including HIV.   6. A compilation of baseline data to assess the needs of young people in Cambodia

    The compilation contains baseline data gathered by the Cambodia Health Education Media Service (CHEMS). It contains the result and analysis of survey on knowledge, attitude, beliefs and practices of youth in four areas in Cambodia. The survey covers demographic information, audience profile, including listening habits and programme preference, general health information, including disease profile, health services and reproductive and sexual health and social life skills issues.
