  1. On the association between HIV knowledge and risky sexual behavior in India

    This paper estimates the association between HIV knowledge and risky sexual behavior in India. Using data from the third wave of the national demographic survey, the authors find that better HIV related knowledge does not always promote safer sexual practices. While, better HIV knowledge increases the likelihood of condom use, it also increases the likelihood of pre-marital sex, and reduces the likelihood of abstinence. These effects are much stronger for males when compared to females. …

    This cross-sectional study conducted in 2007 in South Delhi, India aimed to assess adolescent school girls' knowledge, attitudes and perceptionsátowards STIs/HIV and safer sex practices and sex education and to explore current sexual behavior. Two hundred and fifty-one female students from two senior secondary schools completed self-administered questionnaires.   3. Red Ribbon. It's not who you are that puts you at risk for HIV infection. It's what you do.

    Red Ribbon is a booklet which is part of the pilot project "Engaging Young People to Prevent the Spread of HIV" implemented by the NGO SPACE (Society for People's Awareness, Care and Empowerment) and supported by UNESCO, New Delhi. In 2007, this project is already operational in 10 colleges of Delhi University and aims to enhance knowledge and skills of young people so that they are empowered to respond effectively to the challenges posed by HIV and AIDS. The booklet aims to address the questions, misconceptions and myths prevalent among educated youth about HIV and AIDS and related issues. …
