  6. HIV/AIDS educational strategies in private primary schools: a pilot study in Gaborone City, Botswana

    The study was a descriptive survey conducted in 14 private primary schools in Gaborne city in Botswana. A structured and self-administered instrument was used to collect data from 12 head masters out of the 14 headmasters identified to participate in the study. Descriptive statistics was used to report the findings. The results showed that the private primary schools in Gaborone use a variety of HIV/AIDS prevention educational strategies to make primary school pupils aware of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country. …

    Este material didáctico es un marco teórico de referencia que, en su articulación con las orientaciones metodológicas aportadas, constituyen un punto de partida que resulta indispensable para la adecuada preparación del personal pedagógico, con vistas a cumplir efectiva y científicamente la función de educadores y promotores de una sexualidad sana, plena y responsable, libre de riesgos en las niñas y niños, los y las adolescentes y jóvenes, atendiendo a las características de estos grupos etarios y las del contexto sociocultural en que se desarrollan.

  8. Evaluation of a comprehensive AIDS education curriculum in Hungary - the role of good educators

    This study evaluated an AIDS education program in Hungary. Four evaluations were undertaken - process and outcome evaluations of the peer educator training and activities used for students. Results indicate that peer educator characteristics, as well as teachers' attitudes and the cultural aspects of transferability of programs need to beáconsidered in designing effective peer education programs.

  9. HIV education in South African schools: the dilemma and conflicts of educators

    Educators within the school system are well placed to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and skills in order for adolescents to be equipped for appropriate sexual decision-making. The aim of this research was to provide an understanding of educators' beliefs, attitudes and behaviours with regard to sexual and reproductive health promotion.     This article examines what happened within one Church of England primary school during an action research project concerning sexualities. No Outsiders aimed at exploring how teachers developed classroom practices that promoted greater inclusion of sexual minorities, at the same time as working to eradicate homophobic bullying and heterosexism. This examination engages current research methodologies, including post-structural analytics and narrative ethnography, to consider the viewpoints of headteacher and researcher, with a particular reference to faith issues. …
