  9. HIV/AIDS educational strategies in private primary schools: a pilot study in Gaborone City, Botswana

    The study was a descriptive survey conducted in 14 private primary schools in Gaborne city in Botswana. A structured and self-administered instrument was used to collect data from 12 head masters out of the 14 headmasters identified to participate in the study. Descriptive statistics was used to report the findings. The results showed that the private primary schools in Gaborone use a variety of HIV/AIDS prevention educational strategies to make primary school pupils aware of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country. …

    Under the umbrella of Joint HIV Mainstreaming in German Development Cooperation the implementing agencies GTZ, ded, InWent, KfW and the German Embassy in Tanzania held their First joint HIV Mainstreaming Day for national Personnel on 7th August 2009 in Dar es Salaam.     This publication documents the results of partnerships between UNFPA and faith-based organizations in the areas of population and development, including human rights, reproductive health, women's empowerment, adolescents and youth, humanitarian assistance, and HIV and AIDS. It provides an analysis of best practices and lessons learned in faith-based partnerships around the world. Key resources on faith-based engagement and organizations are also suggested.

  14. Culture matters: working with communities and faith-based organizations: case studies from country programmes

    This review is part of a UNFPA effort to strengthen its capacity to explore windows of opportunities for the implementation of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in 1994 and to address resistance that is rooted in traditions, customs and social practices in country where UNFPA supports programmes. It attempts to explore the contribution of culturally sensitive approaches and partnerships with local power structures and institutions to the effective implementation of rights-based population and development programmes.
