Policy document research has shown that although South African politicians and managers have produced volumes of eloquent and compelling legislation regarding provision for HIV & AIDS education, little of this is translated into action. The impact of HIV & AIDS permeates the social, economic and political arenas in South Africa.     This report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter maps out the area of theories and models of teaching and HIV/AIDS in HEIs. In so doing it draws attention to this work as a knowledge area in the study of Higher Education, and provides an overview of the methods used to carry out the study. The second chapter is a review of the literature on teaching and HIV/AIDS in Higher Education, focusing in particular on the national and regional literature.
