    This framework sets a standard for training providers and in-service coordinators to help plan, deliver and evaluate training in HIV/AIDS, STIs, reproductive health, peer education and life skills. The training pathways aim to guide teachers to the appropriate training course for their experience and previous professional development. The purpose of the framework is to: 1. Support schools planning in-service on Personal Development or HIV/AIDS & STIs; 2. Guide training providers and partner organisations in delivering in-service training.

  2. The education equality curriculum guide: supporting teachers in tackling homophobia in school

    This guide focuses predominantly on issues of sexual orientation and homophobia. These lessons are designed for use at Key Stage 3. They can be adapted and used to suit different year groups and abilities. Some lessons already provide ideas and resources for differentiation within the class. The majority of the lessons focus on sexual orientation or an investigation of homophobia; the same activities can be adapted and applied to other causes such as sectarianism/racism.   3. Toolkit for teachers dealing with homophobia and homophobic bullying in Scottish schools

    This toolkit has been developed as one of a number of equality projects covering a range of issues. It follows research to identify policy, practice, awareness and confidence around dealing with homophobic incidents. The research suggested that in relation to bullying and discrimination, the issue of sexual orientation is less embedded compared to other equality strands such as gender, disability and race, and teachers were less confident in dealing consistently and effectively with homophobia. …

    The purpose of the study summarised in this document was to determine the roles of educators in mitigating the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and to ascertain the skills and knowledge required by them to play such roles effectively. Recognising that educators have a crucial role to play in all education subsectors, the study investigated the current and possible future roles of educators in schools and further education and training (FET) colleges as well as those of educators working in the higher education (HE) subsector.

    The revised Window of Hope: HIV/AIDS Syllabus for Teacher Training Colleges in Ghana is intended to be used by Teacher Training College tutors as they prepare teacher trainees for service in Ghanaian schools. Window of Hope refers to age group of 5-14 year-olds who have not yet been infected by the AIDS virus.   9. The impact of HIV/AIDS on teachers and other education personnel in West and Central Africa: A synthesis of the literature from 2000 to 2004.

    This paper examines the literature on how HIV/AIDS has impacted teachers and other education personnel in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d`Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal. The findings show that the HIV/AIDS situation is serious in all the countries studied although the prevalence rates range from 0.5 in Senegal, 5.8% in Nigeria and 11.8 % in Cameroon (UNAIDS, 2003). Generally, it was found that infection rates in the education system reflect the national rates. …
