    Le présent PSN a pour vision «une génération sans sida» en RDC. Cinq axes stratégiques déterminent les résultats d’impacts, des effets et des produits à atteindre avec les interventions stratégiques au cours de la période 2014–2017.   6. The HIV/AIDS Pandemic in Comparative Perspective: The Cases of India and Russia

    After examining the history of HIV/AIDS in Russia and India, the article examines the present prevalence of, and future projections for, HIV/AIDS in both countries. It also discusses the economic, political, and social consequences of the pandemic in either region, while evaluating the effectiveness of the Indian and Russian governmental attempts to stem the health crisis. The article concludes with certain policy recommendations for the target countries' respective governments.

  10. National plans of action for orphans and vulnerable children in sub-Saharan Africa. Where are the youngest children?

    In 2005, an estimated 48 million children aged 0-18 years, that is to say 12 percent of all children in sub-Saharan Africa, were orphans, and that number is expected to rise to 53 million by 2010. One quarter of all orphans are orphaned because of AIDS, and about 2.6 million children are currently infected with HIV. In response to the general awareness of the increasing number of these children, a global initiative to develop national plans of action (NPAs) for these orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs), or children affected by HIV and AIDS, has been launched. …

    This report focuses on the economic impacts of AIDS at both macro- and micro-levels, and includes an assessment of the likely impact on the key macroeconomic variables mentioned above, as well as the fiscal impact, and the impact on households and firms. One of the key objectives of the study is to update a previous exercise, undertaken in 1999-2000, which examined the likely macroeconomic impact of HIV/AIDS (BIDPA 2000).

  13. Review and appraisal of the progress made in achieving the goals and objectives of the programme of action of the International Conference on Population and Development: the 2004 report

    This report is based on the 2nd quinquennial review and appraisal for the thirty-seventh session of the commission in 2004. It is divided into an introduction and seven chapters. The first two sections provide an overview of population levels and trends, and population growth, structure and distribution in the world and its major regions. These are followed by four sections focusing on clusters of issues: reproductive health and rights and mortality, international migration and population programmes.     This paper examines the magnitude, distribution and causes of HIV/AIDS in Kenya, including responses to fight the disease. An account is also provided of theoretical and empirical economics research approaches used in analysing the impact of HIV/AIDS. On average, statistics show that HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in urban areas are higher than in rural areas, and that HIV/AIDS is imposing heavy costs on the economy, primarily through increased medical care expenditure and labour losses. …

  15. The social, demographic and development impact of HIV/AIDS: Commonwealth universities respond

    This is a workshop report on Commonwealth universities and the HIV/AIDS pandemic held in Durban, South Africa. The report highlights various presentaions from various stakeholders on the scale of the problem facing commonwealth universities, an overview of epidemiological factors revealing something in the nature of HIV, experiences of institutions in Bostwana, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. The two day workshop concluded with a draft policy paper for Commonwealth universities to consider in making their responses to the HIV/AIDS eidemic.
