  1. LGBT action plan 2018: improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people

    With over 75 commitments, the cross-Government plan sets out how the Government will improve the lives of LGBT people. Some of the key actions include: Appointing a national LGBT health adviser to provide leadership on reducing the health inequalities that LGBT people face; Extending the anti-homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying programme in schools; Bringing forward proposals to end the practice of conversion therapy in the UK; and Taking further action on LGBT hate crime – improving the recording and reporting of, and police response to, hate crime.

This overview is followed by an examination of the Philippines experience of protecting the rights of LGBT people under eight different areas: education, health, employment, family affairs, religion, community, media and politics, using the same methodology as described above. …

  4. A Review of education policy to address the active and passive exclusion of learners affected by HIV and AIDS from attending or participating in schooling

    The study focuses on four key barriers to education, which are most prominent for children affected by HIV and AIDS, namely: HIV/AIDS-related illness of learners; Grief and trauma associated with illness and death of family/household members; Increased domestic responsibility (and exploitation through child labour) for children affected by AIDS; HIV- and AIDS-related stigma and discrimination.

    Namibia has a high HIV prevalence rate and as a result, the Education Sector is experiencing an increase in employee absenteeism; high attrition rate as well as low levels of productivity. The Education Sector is the nation's largest single employer engaging approximately 38 000 employees. These amongst many, comprise of managers, professionals and support staff.
