Effective, broad-scale interventions to assure the healthy physical, emotional, and cognitive development of young children are desperately needed in Sub-Saharan Africa and must be an essential component of any well-designed, integrated program to prevent and reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in Africa. These guidelines are meant to be a ""work in progress"" and will be updated continually based on comments, new data and user experience.
