    À partir de résultats tirés d’une enquête par questionnaire auprès de 2747 élèves de l’école secondaire québécoise et d’entrevues auprès de jeunes s’identifiant comme lesbiennes, gais, bisexuel(le)s ou en questionnement (LGBQ) ou comme trans, cet article propose une réflexion sur les violences prenant pour cible l’expression de genre à l’école. Plus du tiers des élèves s’identifiant comme hétérosexuels rapportent avoir été victimes de violences parce qu’on pense qu’ils sont, ou parce qu’ils sont gais. C’est également le cas de plus des deux tiers des élèves LGBQ. …

  5. Heterosexism in high school and victimization among lesbian, gay, bisexual and questioning students

    This study examined relationships between perceived heterosexism in high school policies and programs, social environments, and victimization rates among lesbian, gay, bisexual and questioning (LGBQ) students. Secondary analyses of Internet survey data from a large cohort of LGBQ students (N = 2037; 76% male, 82% White; mean age = 16.07; 56% gay or lesbian; 28% bisexual; 16% questioning) yielded moderate correlations between perceptions of non-discrimination and harassment policies, inclusive programs, and the prevalence and tolerance of anti-LGBQ harassment. …

  6. Embracing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth in school-based settings

    Youth with invisible challenges constitute a special area of concern for child and youth care workers. Youth struggling with gender and sexual orientation are reported to comprise ten percent of our youth population yet they may often be unknown to teachers and other school personnel. These adolescents face unique challenges in developing their identity and gaining social acceptance. This paper explores the challenges faced by these youth, the consequences of underserving this population and proposes some strategies for improving their educational experience.

The author places the discussion within the context of learning environments and presents ways in which pre-service and in-service teachers can help create safe and equitable spaces for all learners.   9. Bullying of lesbian and gay youth: a qualitative investigation

    The preponderance of bullying research does not address sexual orientation as a possible factor. The purpose of this study was to explore the perspectives of service providers and youth advocates working with lesbian and gay communities in order to increase understanding of bullying of lesbian and gay youth.     Students’ school education consists of not only what they are explicitly taught in the classroom, but also what they implicitly learn through the language, attitudes and actions of other students and teachers. When these attitudes, remarks and actions are unsupportive or hostile, they create a school climate that can negatively impact students’ feelings of safety and their interest in school and learning.     Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) are student-led, school-based clubs that aim to provide a safe environment in the school context for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students, as well as their straight allies.   12. Informe nacional sobre violencia de género en la educación básica en México

    La investigación tiene por objetivo primordial la producción de conocimiento estadístico que posibilite la medición y el acercamiento a la compresión integral de la problemática de la violencia de género. Asimismo, busca ser una guía en el diseño y el desarrollo de políticas educativas que, desde la perspectiva de género, propicien relaciones equitativas entre los sexos, contribuyan a la eliminación de la discriminación y la violencia de género, así como a garantizar el cabal cumplimiento de los derechos de las niñas y los niños en el entorno educativo.

    Que savons-nous des manifestations de l'homophobie à l'école secondaire québécoise? Que font les écoles secondaires afin de contrer cette forme de violence? Comment améliorer le bien-être des jeunes de la diversité sexuelle à l'école secondaire?     Plusieurs enquêtes récentes, principalement états-uniennes, et depuis peu canadiennes, ont sondé la prévalence de l'homophobie - qu'elle soit d'ordre physique, verbal ou autre - dans les écoles ainsi que ses conséquences néfastes sur les jeunes qui en sont victimes.En documentant de façon concrète l'homophobie en milieu scolaire et ses impacts sur la persévérance et la réussite scolaires, notre recherche vise à informer, à mobiliser et à outiller l'ensemble des acteurs du monde de l'éducation en ce qui concerne les conséquences négatives de l'homophobie sur les jeunes qui en sont victimes.
