    Plusieurs enquêtes récentes, principalement états-uniennes, et depuis peu canadiennes, ont sondé la prévalence de l'homophobie - qu'elle soit d'ordre physique, verbal ou autre - dans les écoles ainsi que ses conséquences néfastes sur les jeunes qui en sont victimes.En documentant de façon concrète l'homophobie en milieu scolaire et ses impacts sur la persévérance et la réussite scolaires, notre recherche vise à informer, à mobiliser et à outiller l'ensemble des acteurs du monde de l'éducation en ce qui concerne les conséquences négatives de l'homophobie sur les jeunes qui en sont victimes.

  3. Every class in every school: final report on the first national climate survey on homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in Canadian schools

    This report discusses the results of a national survey of Canadian high school students undertaken in order to investigate what life at school is like for students with sexual or gender minority status. Our study sought to identify the forms and extent of students' experiences of homophobic and transphobic incidents at school, the impact of those experiences, and the efficacy of measures being taken by schools to combat these common forms of bullying. The study involved surveying over 3700 students from across Canada between December 2007 and June 2009 through two methods. …

    This webinar presented an overview of research findings from GLSEN's 2009 National School Climate Survey, as detailed in a new report on the school experiences of LGBT youth that was released on September 13th.     Report on the five years anti violence research project of the Safe Schools Coalition of Washington State. This landmark report describes the findings of a five-year study in elementary, middle and high schools in 37 school districts. Included are 111 actual case studies of the incidents reported to the researchers, ranging from name-calling to 22 assaults and 8 gang rapes.

  12. Bullied: a student, a school and a case that made history

    Bullied is a Teaching Tolerance documentary film that chronicles one student's ordeal at the hands of anti-gay bullies and offers an inspiring message of hope to those fighting harassment today. It can become a cornerstone of anti-bullying efforts in middle and high schools. An accompanying Viewers Guide provides standards-aligned activities for classroom viewing of Bullied, as well as guidance for educators to create environments that are safe for all students, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students.

  13. Perceptions of rural school staff regarding sexual minority students

    Sexual minority students often do not feel safe in school, especially in rural communities, and changes are needed within school environments in order to provide a safe and effective learning environment for all students. Prior to implementing school change, an investigation into the perceptions of educators in public schools in three rural New York counties was conducted. Results indicated that respondents, especially teachers, viewed sexual minority students significantly less favorably than other minority groups. …
