  2. Strengthening the education sector response to school health, nutrition and HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean region: a rapid survey of thirteen countries

    The overall objectives of this rapid survey undertaken by EduCan in early 2008 are to inform the development of both regional and national level education sector policies and strategies on school health, nutrition and HIV in the Caribbean region. The survey also aims to describe the current situation of education sector response to school health, nutrition, HIV and stigma, and to provide a baseline for monitoring progress. It also aims to provide data on the allocation and mobilization of resources used in such education sector responses across the region.

  3. Standards for curriculum-based reproductive health and HIV education programs

    This manual is based on the findings of a systematic review published by Family Health International (FHI) on the Impact of Sex and HIV Education Programs on Sexual Behaviours of Youth in Developing Countries (Kirby et al., 2005) and deliberations from an expert consultation meeting convened by FHI in January 2006. One of the results of the research was a list of 24 characteristics of effective curriculum-based programmes.     In line with the Revised National Policy Document on HIV and AIDS in Guyana (2006) the Ministry of Education (MOE) seeks to play its part in the multisectoral response that is needed if the epidemic is to be overcome.
