  2. A call to action: LGBTQ youth need inclusive sex education

    This issue brief urges educators, advocates, and policymakers to take immediate, concrete steps to provide LGBTQ-inclusive sex education for all youth, by: 1) Becoming advocates for LGBTQ-inclusive sex education, 2) Ensuring that school is a safe and accepting space for LGBTQ students, 3) Implementing LGBTQ-inclusive sex education in schools, community settings and online, 4) Talking to their own children and teens about sex and sexuality, 5) Working to remove state-level legal and policy barriers to LGBTQ-inclusive sex education in schools and require inclusive programs.

  3. Guidance for implementing the policy‐related activities of promoting adolescent health through school‐based HIV/STD prevention (funded state education agency version)

    The purpose of this document is to provide guidance for implementing the policy-related required activities for state education agencies awarded funding under Strategy 2: School-Based HIV/STD Prevention. The intended outcome of these activities is to increase the number of funded states and districts that track policy implementation and educate decision makers on policy solutions. There is a separate document for funded local education agencies, with guidance on implementing their specific 1308 policy-related required activities.

    Con esta guía, las y los docentes obtendrán información actualizada y científica para comprender una serie de aspectos sobre la sexualidad de las y los adolescentes y de jóvenes con orientaciones sexuales o identidades de género diferentes. Además, encontrarán información sobre el marco normativo internacional y nacional que ampara sus derechos, así como algunos recursos metodológicos para enfrentar situaciones de acoso escolar o bullying homofóbico, lesbofóbico y transfóbico, a nivel individual y al interior del aula.

  9. Standards for curriculum-based reproductive health and HIV education programs

    This manual is based on the findings of a systematic review published by Family Health International (FHI) on the Impact of Sex and HIV Education Programs on Sexual Behaviours of Youth in Developing Countries (Kirby et al., 2005) and deliberations from an expert consultation meeting convened by FHI in January 2006. One of the results of the research was a list of 24 characteristics of effective curriculum-based programmes. Twenty of the standards are adapted from the systematic review and four of the standards emerged from the technical meeting. …
