  1. LGBT action plan 2018: improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people

    With over 75 commitments, the cross-Government plan sets out how the Government will improve the lives of LGBT people. Some of the key actions include: Appointing a national LGBT health adviser to provide leadership on reducing the health inequalities that LGBT people face; Extending the anti-homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying programme in schools; Bringing forward proposals to end the practice of conversion therapy in the UK; and Taking further action on LGBT hate crime – improving the recording and reporting of, and police response to, hate crime.

  3. The impact of homophobic and transphobic bullying on education and employment: Advocacy recommendations

    In 2013, IGLYO commissioned research that examined the experiences of homophobic and transphobic bullying within the educational context and its impact on employment and future career. An online survey targeted respondents in Croatia, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, and Poland. The final results were drawn out of 187 survey responses, as well as a substantial number of complementary research reports.

    NCB has produced six Your Life leaflets for young people who have HIV and are aged between about 13 and 25.     This Policy and Strategy Framework is based on the “Policy Framework on HIV and AIDS for Higher Education in South Africa” that was adopted in November 2008.     On the 2012 lnternational Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, the European Region of Education international, the European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE), the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), and the European Region of the lnternational Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and lntersex Association (ILGA-Europe), affirm their commitment to strengthen their collaboration at national and European level to prevent and combat jointly homophobia and transphobia at school, in workplaces and in society.

  9. An addendum for higher education and technical and vocational education and training to the HIV and AIDS strategic plan 2008/2012

    The purpose of writing the addendum is to give visibility of Higher Education and Technical and Vocational Education Training in the ESSP - HA (2008 – 2012). The focus of this addendum is HE and TVET institutions, a population which is at risk for and vulnerable to HIV and STIs infection. The main focus of the addendum will be on four main areas or themes that will address risk and vulnerability reduction for both school and workplace populations, namely: prevention education; care and support services; impact mitigation; enabling environment.

  10. Courage and Hope. African teachers living positively with HIV

    122,000 teachers in sub-Saharan Africa are estimated to be living with HIV, most of who do not know their status. Stigma remains their greatest challenge. In 2007, a network of African journalists compiled a book entitled “Courage and Hope” telling the first-hand stories of African teachers who are HIV positive and living healthy, active lives as teachers. This film shows some of the stories those journalists discovered. The teachers went through stigma and discrimination and each used their experience to teach a new generation of teachers, what it means to live positively.

  12. A review of the impact of HIV/AIDS on education, the workforce and workplace: the African experience

    The impact of HIV/AIDS cuts across all sectors of economic activities and social life. For example it not only reduces the stock of human capital but also the capacity to maintain the required turnover of many sought after skills and trainining like engineers, doctors, teachers, artisans and others. In the educational sphere, it leads to among other things a decrease in potential clientele for education, resources and even donor support.
