The IIEP HIV/AIDS Forum was conceived with two themes in mind - of information sharing and of community building. It aimed to create a virtual network of education professionals working against HIV/AIDS, while promoting the exchange of successful interventions, and establishing consistency within programme development. The participants represented more than 50 countries from all over the world, with more than half from Africa. An all day meeting of the Ministries of Education Focal Points (FPs) for HIV/AIDS was conducted in Abuja Nigeria on Wednesday the 7th of 2005. The main objectives of the meeting were: i) to provide an opportunity for the Focal Points to start building a team, ii) exchange information on how their countries are responding to the impact of HIV/AIDS on their countries' education sector; and iii) to develop the network's vision, mission and 2006 work plan.
In October 2001, the IIEP organized it's first HIV/AIDS electronic discussion on the impact of HIV/AIDS on education. The forum was moderated throughout its four week period. Each week, discussion questions were sent out which focused on a specific aspect of the pandemic. Discussion themes included: Examining unquestioned assumptions; flexibility on educational provision; enhancing student responsibility. …
