On December 7, 2013, ministers and their representatives from 21 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa came together to endorse and adopt the UN commitment for Eastern and Southern Africa with its recommendations for bold action in response to HIV and the education/health challenges experienced by young people. The HIV and AIDS training kit is a user-friendly guide to build capacity in education sector professionals who have responsibility for the implementation of their country's education sector policy on HIV and AIDS. The kit consists of three sections. Section One contains information on getting started - such as a training curriculum, generic workshop programme and tips for training in the era of HIV and AIDS. Section Two contains tools to assess HIV/AIDS competency, in both the participants and the trainers. …
As a result of the Johannesburg Biennial Meeting and the Prospective Stock-Taking Review, ADEA invited the African ministries of education to analyze the different interventions they have implemented to control HIV and manage its impact on the sector. The broad objective is then to compile these case studies to identify promising practices, and subsequently share this information with other ministries. This particular study lists country initiatives and explores the interventions already in place to estimate their effectiveness and begin to collect lessons learned.
