    The employer is concerned about HIV and AIDS situation and this policy in line with the main objectives of the health, safety and environment policy aims to ensure that employees have sufficient awareness of the causes, prevention and consequences of the disease in order to adequately protect themselves, their family members and others.

    The Code’s primary objective is to set out guidelines for employers and trade unions to implement so as to ensure individuals with HIV infection are not unfairly discriminated against in the workplace.     In 1994 a process was started by a group of NGO’s and trade unions in South Africa and Zimbabwe to try and persuade SADC to develop a regional “Code of Best Practice around AIDS and Employment”. In 1997 the Code that is reprinted in this pamphlet was adopted by the SADC Council. It is now an official policy of the region and it is recommended that SADC’s 14 member states find ways to incorporate the Code’s provisions into legislation.     In 2007 GIZ commissioned Health Focus, Germany, to implement the intervention "Supporting Public Sector Workplace Programmes in Tanzania" (WPP) for the planning, implementation and monitoring of workplace interventions on HIV/AIDS as part of the Tanzanian German Programme to Support Health (TGPSH). The first phase of the project was implemented from July 2007 to March 2010, the second phase from April 2010 to December 2012.     Education is among the most prominent of the great challenges of development. This paper outlines the likely effects of the AIDS pandemic in Africa on the continent's ability to produce education and use it effectively for growth and poverty reduction. Four channels are explored.     In July 2001, the Government, in collaboration with UNDP and UNAIDS, commissioned the Malawi Institute of Management to undertake an HIV/AIDS impact assessment study in the Public Service, covering the Ministries of Health, Education, Agriculture and Water Development, as well as the Malawi Police Service.
