  5. Assessment of the psychometric properties of HIV knowledge items across five countries

HIV knowledge is commonly measured in HIV prevention research and program evaluations, but rigorous measurement standards are not always applied. Using item response theory methods, we examined the psychometric functioning of five commonly used HIV knowledge questions in five countries with varying HIV prevalence. We evaluated the internal consistency and measurement invariance of the items. The items performed poorly in all samples and the scale as a whole did not perform equally across samples. …

  6. Relatório anual de progresso das actividades de combate ao HIV e SIDA – 2013

Moçambique mantém a sua classificação entre os dez países mais afectados pelo HIV no mundo. A epidemia ameaça o futuro económico e social do país. …

  9. UNAIDS Middle East and North Africa regional report on AIDS 2011

In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, the HIV epidemic has been on the rise since 2001. Although the overall HIV prevalence in the region is still low, the rise in new infections has put MENA among the top two regions in the world with the fastest growing HIV epidemic. The rise in the estimated number of people living with HIV in the region presumably is the result of an increased HIV prevalence among key populations at higher risk and a forward transmission of the virus to a larger number of individuals who are generally at lower risk of infection.

  10. Estimates and Projections of the Impact of HIV/AIDS in Namibia

The report presents understanding of Namibia's HIV/AIDS epidemic as well as future trends. The projections indicate that a substantial amount of work is needed in responding to the HIV epidemic. The results of the models suggest that estimated adult (ages 15-49) HIV prevalence in 2007/08 was 15.4 percent. Despite stabilizing HIV prevalence, the number of people living with HIV will continue to increase as the total population size in that age range grows. In 2007/08 approximately 204,000 people were living with HIV while in 2012/13 this value is predicted to be 247,000 people.

  11. Enhancing financial literacy, HIV/AIDS skills, and safe social spaces among vulnerable South African youth

South Africa is disproportionately affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The country has less than one percent of the world's 15-24-year-olds, yet these young people account for approximately 14 percent of all global HIV infections among this age group. Young women are at particular risk among 15-24 year-olds, four times as many females as males are living with HIV (16.9 percent versus 4.4 percent) and girls are becoming infected at much faster rates than boys. …

  12. Global Trends in AIDS Mortality

In 2007, a total of 2.0 million men, women, and children died of AIDS worldwide. The death toll will remain high in the future because 33 million individuals are currently infected and about 2.7 million new HIV infections occur each year. …
