    Objective: Systematically assess the effectiveness of HIV-prevention interventions in changing sexual behaviour of young people (10–25 years) in sub-Saharan Africa. Methods: Three online databases were searched using prespecified terms. Additional articles were identified on websites of international organizations and by searching bibliographies. Randomized and nonrandomized trials of interventions aiming to reduce risk behaviour were included as well as single-arm studies reporting effects of differential exposure to an intervention. …

    Best practices for adolescent sex education recommend science-based approaches. However, little is known about the capacity and needs of organizations who implement sex education programs on the local level. The purpose of this research was to describe successes and challenges of community organizations in implementing science-based sex education. Using qualitative methods, we interviewed program directors and educators in 17 state funded adolescent pregnancy prevention/sex education programs as part of a larger mixed methods evaluation. …

    The African Youth Alliance is a five-year initiative to expand national campaigns in Botswana, Ghana, Uganda, and the United Republic of Tanzania to educate youth (aged 10-24) about reproductive health matters, including HIV/AIDS prevention, and to provide them with the necessary information, skills, and support to protect themselves.     The Evidence and Rights Based Planning and Support Tool for SRHR/HIV-Prevention Interventions for Young People is a tool for project managers who either design new programmes or who evaluate existing programmes. The tool focuses on the planning of SRHR/HIV prevention interventions for young people and consists of 28 indicators for successful/effective education programmes. The indicators are based on existing theories and evidence and are based on the Intervention Mapping framework.
