  1. Shaping norms when they form: Investing in primary prevention of gender-based violence through working with children in schools

    This paper focuses on the Gender Equity Movement in Schools (GEMS) initiative, a school-based program that aims to promotes gender equality by encouraging equal relationships between girls and boys, examining the social norms that define men's and women's roles, value attached these roles and questioning the use of violence. It uses gender transformative approach to engage students in self-reflection and critical thinking through Group Education Activities in classrooms and campaigns.

  2. Addressing school related gender based violence: learning from practice

    This learning brief is based on research shared at a learning day on School Related Gender Based Violence (SRGBV), organised by the Irish Consortium on Gender Based Violence, at the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin Castle, on December 18th 2012. The principal inputs were provided by Máiréad Dunne, Director of the Centre for International Education at the University of Sussex, and Tanja Suvilaakso, Child Rights and Protection Advisor for Plan International. It builds on discussions within Learning Brief 2: Effective Responses for Gender Based Violence: Gender Based Violence in Schools.

  3. HIV and violence against women in Belize

    The overall objective of this study was to explore the potential intersections between two forms of violence against women (VAW) - partner violence and non-partner violence - among users of VAW and HIV services and to document their experiences, knowledge and perceptions on HIV and violence. The information was collected using a standardized questionnaire in each participant country in order to collect and compare data in a multi-country analysis. In Belize seventy-four (74) women were interviewed, 32 users of HIV services and 42 users of VAW services countrywide during 2007. …
