    World leaders have committed to ending AIDS through a new framework for action: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Ending AIDS is now part of a broader health goal (SDG 3): Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages; however, the AIDS response must also focus on gender equality, human rights, economic empowerment and education.     National Strategic Plans (NSPs) for HIV/AIDS are country planning documents that set priorities for programmes and services, including a set of targets to quantify progress toward national and international goals. The inclusion of sex- disaggregated targets and targets to combat gender inequality is important given the high disease burden among young women and adolescent girls in Sub-Saharan Africa, yet no comprehensive gender-focused analysis of NSP targets has been performed. …

    The assessment, aimed at understanding gender dynamics critical for successful implementation of HIV and AIDS programmes in Nigeria, is to complement the National Strategic Plan (NSP) 2010-2015.
