    In 2008 a 4-year plan for HIV and AIDS Education and Prevention in Ireland was published. The plan aimed to contribute to a reduction in new infections of HIV and AIDS through education and prevention measures. It also aimed to guide and inform the development of policy and services in the statutory and non-statutory sectors with responsibility in this regard. This report presents an update on the progress of the implementation of the actions in the HIV and AIDS Education and Prevention Plan 2008-2012.

  3. National strategic plan for most at risk populations 2011-2015

    The Ghana Most At Risk Population strategy 2011-2015 has been developed to provide a framework for the implementation of a comprehensive package of services designed specifically to reach four MARP subgroups, Female Sex Workers (FSW), Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), Injecting Drug Users (PWID) and Prisoners.     In recognition of the importance of an enabling legal and policy environment that supports MARPs and their access to services, the Ghana AIDS Commission requested that the United States Agency for International Development - supported Health Policy Initiative conduct a qualitative assessment to develop an understanding of the current legal and policy framework for MARPs.     Groups of men who have sex with men (MSM) are not uniform throughout the Southeast Asian region. As the groups vary, their need of health coverage, social acceptance and information varies. This Brief claims that design of policies, programs and advocacies must be tailored to the local context. There are several factors to take into consideration; age, urban/rural, social context and laws that criminalize certain behaviors.   7. The HIV Epidemic in Yunnan Province, China, 1989-2007

    The article aims to investigate the characteristics and trends in the HIV epidemic in Yunnan Province, China, between 1989 and 2007. It shows that the HIV epidemic in Yunnan has progressed to a concentrated epidemic. Future efforts must focus not only on groups at risk for primary infection (injecting drug users, men who have sex with men, and female sex workers) but also on their low-risk sexual partners.

  9. VIH-SIDA en Uruguay: epidemia concentrada en sectores de mayor vulnerabilidad

    Nota publicada en el sitio web del Programa Prioritario de ITS y SIDA sobre la situación del VIH/SIDA en Uruguay. En un estudio realizado y publicado en diciembre de 2008, se reveló una baja prevalencia nacional, concentrada en los grupos más vulnerables. Se alcanzó una "meseta", es decir un control de la epidemia en la población general. Dos uruguayos por día eran notificados de la enfermedad, actualmente, la cifra descendió a uno, lo que demuestra que las acciones preventivas están dando sus frutos.
