  6. HIV/AIDS policy in Vietnam: A civil society perspective

    HIV/AIDS has spread rapidly in Vietnam since the first case was registered in 1990, and today more than a quarter-million people in the country are living with HIV/AIDS. The national HIV prevalence rate among adults is 0.5 percent, but prevalence rates are significantly higher among high-risk groups, such as injecting drug users (33 to 65 percent) and sex workers (approximately 16 percent). However, the illegal nature of drug use and sex work has complicated efforts to prevent HIV among these high-risk groups. …

    This paper synthesises the evidence on the sexual and reproductive health situation of young people in India, and explores what we know about underlying factors that place them at risk of or protect them from unsafe and unwanted sexual and reproductive health experiences.     The document is part of WHO project to identify and define evidence-based strategies for influencing adolescent help-seeking and identify research questions and activities to promote improved help-seeking behaviour by adolescents. The document presents the findings from an international review on the topic; results of programme consultation with 35 adolescent health programmes; results of six key informant interviews; and recommendations for action, including brief outline for developing a set of guidelines for the rapid assessment of social supports to promote the help-seeking of adolescents.

  10. Youth in the Philippines : a review of the youth situation and national policies and programmes

    The monograph contains six chapters: youth development; youth education; youth health; youth employment; youth participation; and conclusions and recommendations. The first chapter on youth development provides an overview of youth participation in national development followed by a review of the national youth policy and programmes. Each of the three chapters on education, health and employment begin with an analysis of policy and followed by a quantitative and a qualitative analysis on youth issues in the relevant area.
