  7. Dignity denied: violations of the rights of HIV-positive women in Chilean health facilities

    Dignity Denied documents the systemic discrimination and abuse that HIV-positive women endure in Chilean health facilities. Based on women's testimonies and those of healthcare providers, this report exposes the discriminatory and often dehumanizing experiences that Chilean women living with HIV/AIDS face when seeking healthcare, including failures to protect patient confidentiality, lack of adequate pre- and post-test counseling, delayed or abusive treatment, pressure to not bear children, and coercive and forced sterilization.

    Estudio basado en entrevistas sobre la situación de las mujeres que viven con el VIH y su experiencia con los servicios de salud en México. Se aportan elementos para movilizar y mejorar la respuesta a los problemas surgidos de la epidemia por VIH/SIDA en mujeres, se exploran factores relacionados con la disponibilidad, acceso, efectividad y vacíos en materia de servicios para mujeres. Este texto busca dar cuenta de los hallazgos, reflexiones y recomendaciones derivadas a partir de la documentación y análisis de experiencias de mujeres mexicanas que viven con VIH/SIDA.

  9. Diagnostico socioeconómico de mujeres viviendo con VIH/SIDA de la Región Metropolitana de Chile

    El presente diagnóstico describe la situación socioeconómica en que se encuentran las mujeres que viven con VIH/SIDA en nuestro país, problemática que no ha sido abordada por otros estudios. De acuerdo al control epidemiológico de la Comisión Nacional de SIDA (CONASIDA) del Ministerio de Salud, una de las características de esta pandemia en Chile -al igual que en otros países del mundo- es la tendencia a la feminización, lo que guarda relación con la vulnerabilidad sociocultural en la que se encuentran las mujeres producto de los patrones de género establecidos en nuestra sociedad.

    This report presents the perceptions, attitudes and experiences of higher risk teenagers toward HIV testing in intimate and often poignant detail. As teens describe their fears and painful transgressions relating to sexual experiences with others, we are provided with considerable insight into the lives of inner-city youth and the challenges they face as they move from childhood to adulthood.This research discovered troubling attitudes among teenagers towards condom use. …
