  3. Brighter life for all: advocacy strategy to increase access to quality health services for adolescents and young people living with HIV in Uganda 2015 - 2017

    This Advocacy Strategy focuses on reducing barriers facing Adolescents and Youth Living with HIV for improved quality of life. It emphasizes three interlinked objectives to 1) promote positive and dignified lives for AYLHIV free from stigma and discrimination; 2) enhance access to psychosocial support services; 3) increase access and utilization of friendly comprehensive package of services; and 4) improve Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention (PHDP). This holistic approach will ensure an equitable HIV response that ensures no adolescent/youth is left behind.

  4. HIV and sexual and reproductive health programming: innovative approaches to integrated service delivery

    This compendium has profiled and analysed 11 case studies on integrated service delivery in the context of EMTCT from 9 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. All of the examples demonstrate a general trend towards the implementation of integrated service delivery models supported by policy frameworks adopted in country and by service organizations at the facility level. These promising practices are by no means exhaustive or geographically representative.   6. Regional accountability framework: ministerial commitment on comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents and young people in Eastern and Southern African (ESA)

    The accountability frame work has been developed as a tool to monitor country and regional progress towards the agreed commitments as set out in the ESA Ministerial commitment document. The technical coordinating Group, under the leadership of UNAIDS and with support from SADC and EAC Secretariats will play a key role in the development and implementation of the accountability mechanism. The intended audience for the framework are primarily governments in the 20 countries, civil society partners (including young people and community based organisations) and development partners.

  7. Intersectionality of HIV stigma and masculinity in eastern Uganda: implications for involving men in HIV programmes

    Background: Stigma is a determinant of social and health inequalities. In addition, some notions of masculinity can disadvantage men in terms of health outcomes.   9. A review of generalist and specialist community health workers for delivering adolescent health services in sub-Saharan Africa

    The health of adolescents is increasingly seen as an important international priority because the world’s one point eight billion young people (aged 10 to 24 years) accounts for 15.5% of the global burden of disease and are disproportionately located in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).   10. Achieving an AIDS-free generation for gay men and other MSM in Southern Africa

    Focused specifically on six countries in southern Africa, this report describes the financing and implementation of programs for gay men, other men who have sex with men, and transgender individuals (GMT) in a region at the heart of the HIV epidemic through a combination of desk research and in-country consultations conducted by civil society advocates with implementers, policy makers, academics, and people living with HIV.

  11. Mixed method evaluation of a passive mHealth sexual information texting service in Uganda

    The authors evaluate the impact of a health information intervention implemented through mobile phones, using a clustered randomized control trial augmented by qualitative interviews. The intervention aimed to improve sexual health knowledge and shift individuals towards safer sexual behavior by providing reliable information about sexual health. The novel technology designed by Google and Grameen Technology Center provided automated searches of an advice database on topics requested by users via SMS. It was offered by MTN Uganda at no cost to users.
