    This paper maps the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices surrounding menarche, menstrual hygiene and menstrual health among adolescent girls in low and middle income countries in order to inform the future design of relevant policies and programming. The study of over 80 journal articles from a number of low and middle income countries confirmed that: (1) Many adolescent girls start their periods uninformed and unprepared. (2) Mothers are the primary source of information, but they inform girls too-little and too-late and often communicate their own misconceptions. …

    This strategic action plan sets out Public Health England’s (PHE) approach to improving the public’s sexual and reproductive health and reversing the HIV epidemic.   5. Mixed method evaluation of a passive mHealth sexual information texting service in Uganda

    The authors evaluate the impact of a health information intervention implemented through mobile phones, using a clustered randomized control trial augmented by qualitative interviews. The intervention aimed to improve sexual health knowledge and shift individuals towards safer sexual behavior by providing reliable information about sexual health. The novel technology designed by Google and Grameen Technology Center provided automated searches of an advice database on topics requested by users via SMS. It was offered by MTN Uganda at no cost to users.

  13. Survey on health seeking behaviour of women working in the entertainment sector in Phnom Penh

    The report on a research study to explore the situation of these indirect sex workers, their needs for STI services and possible barriers to accessing STI services conducted by Pharmaciens sans Frontieres. The study revealed that young women working in karaoke parlours and night-clubs were less likely to be aware of STIs and had limited access to STI treatment services. Some were aware about the transmission and prevention of HIV infection and the use of condom as an effective means of preventing HIV, STIs and pregnancy. However, the knowledge was limited and not always correct. …

    The report presents the result of an analysis of linked programmes. The objectives of the analysis was to assess the challenges and potential effectiveness of programmes integrating adolescent reproductive health and livelihoods, highlight innovative approaches, and define gaps that exist in designing interventions.
